Gas Turbine Air Intake
Gas turbines require large volumes of air during the combustion process. In order to protect gas turbines from particulates in the air that cause fouling and erosion which lead to damage and decreasing performance, it is critical to properly filter intake air. A variety of filters including panel filters, centrifugal cone separators, and bag filters are used to remove particulate matter and debris from intake airflow before entering the gas turbine. In order to minimize power loss, the filters must have a very low pressure drop. The ideal filters for gas turbines must have the characteristics of high airflow, large filtering area, and ease of either cleaning or replacing. Both periodic maintenance and monitoring the differential pressure drop across the filter are important to keep gas turbines operating efficiently.
